Kindergarten Summer Art Expression

BUTTERFLIES!

This week in the Junior Kindergarten class, students created paintings of trees through a guided, step-by-step process. Working in small groups allowed each child to receive support and carefully follow the different stages of the painting, while their classmates engaged in creative play with play dough. This activity connected nicely to the observational tree drawings we completed outdoors the previous week, giving students the opportunity to revisit and represent a familiar subject using a different medium.

Students also created butterfly crafts by colouring, cutting, and assembling different pieces to form a butterfly. This activity encouraged fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, and careful attention to detail, while allowing students to explore symmetry and the beautiful features of butterflies.

TREES

​In the Senior Kindergarten class, students connected their art learning to their Unit of Inquiry on recycling and caring for the environment. We discussed how water can become polluted and explored the impact pollution can have on oceans and the creatures that live within them. Students then created artworks depicting polluted oceans, providing a thoughtful contrast to the clean ocean scenes they had previously made. Through this project, students reflected on environmental responsibility and used art as a way to communicate their understanding and concerns.

Senior Kindergarten students also enjoyed creating step-by-step tree paintings. They embraced the process with enthusiasm and confidence, carefully following each stage while adding their own creative touches to their work. The project provided opportunities to practice painting techniques, observation skills, and artistic expression.
